FAQ

Find the answers to all of the questions that we get asked most often, so you can be confident in your booking and fully prepared to join us for your sauna session.

How do I find your sauna?

Our sauna is located on the clifftop field at the south end of Watergate Bay, next to Westcountry Surf School, The Hangout, and The Zen Den. If you are arriving by car from Newquay, the entrance is on the left at the top of the hill before you drop down into Watergate Bay itself. There is ample parking, and you can see the sauna from the car park. There is a style to cross, then a short walk across the field. If you are coming from Watergate bay by foot then take the coast path up from the beach and there is a gate to access the field. Again, you will see the sauna as you get close.

Our postcode is: TR7 4AA
Our what3words is: lyricism.libraries.clouds

Where can I park?

Our sauna at Watergate Bay has free parking in the next field across from the sauna. Just show your booking confirmation on arrival at the car park. Please see above for our postcode or what3words to navigate to the car park.

What should I bring with me?

You should bring swimwear, a towel to sit on, a water bottle to take into the sauna, and suitable footwear such as flip-flops – particularly if you are planning to walk down to the beach before, during or after your session. Outside of the summer months or if the weather is poor, we advise bringing warm clothes (including a hat) or a changing robe, to change into after your sauna.

Are there changing rooms?

There are changing rooms nearby at the neighbouring surf school across the field, but ideally you should arrive ready to sauna. There is a lockbox provided by staff for valuables and hangers for coats, changing robes and towels, but we do not have covered changing facilities. It is best to leave valuables locked in your car in the carpark.

What shall we do with valuables?

We recommend that you only bring what is essential for your time with us. You will be able to leave valuables (phone, wallet, car keys etc) with your operator before entering the sauna. Any valuables left in the care of Sauna Society are left at the owners risk.

Where are the nearest toilets?
The nearest public toilets are at Watergate Bay, a 5-10 minute walk down the coast path (see “How do I get to the beach?” below).

What time should I arrive?

We advise that you arrive 5-10 minutes before your booking begins, to allow time to be shown how to use the sauna and for a safety briefing. Arriving late will shorten the duration of your experience.

What happens if we are early?

You can purchase drinks and food from The Hangout, close to the sauna, take a seat and enjoy the view over Watergate Bay whist you wait for your session to begin.

Who can use the sauna?

Anybody over the age of 16 can use the sauna unsupervised. Anybody between the ages of 12 and 15 must be accompanied by somebody over the age of 16. Children under the age of 12 are not permitted to use the sauna.
If you are pregnant or have any underlying relevant health problems or conditions then please seek advice from your doctor before booking. We advise everybody using the sauna to only do so if feeling well, to leave or alert a member of our team if you begin to feel unwell, take frequent breaks and drink plenty of water whilst you sauna.

What if we need to cancel our session?

We are happy to reschedule your session, or refund you (amount determined by the notice you are able to give us, as shown below), for whatever reason. Simply email us on info@sauna-society.com with your booking details and we’ll take it from there.

Cancellation Notice:

More than 3 days (72 hours) notice: full refund or full credit to reschedule your session
2-3 days (48-72 hours) notice: 50% refund or full credit to reschedule your session
24-48 hours notice: full credit to reschedule your session
24-2 hours notice: 50% credit to put towards another session
We do not refund ‘no shows’ (cancellations or rescheduling requests with less than 2 hours notice).

What if my session is cancelled by Sauna Society?

If we need to cancel your booking, for example due to us following government COVID guidelines or similar unforeseen circumstances, we will give you as much notice as possible., by email or phone. We will offer you the opportunity to reschedule your session, or a full refund.

How do I get to the beach?

There is a gate from the field where our sauna is located that opens onto the coast path. You can follow the coast path down to Watergate Bay where there is easy access to the beach.

Is the beach lifeguarded?

Watergate Bay has RNLI lifeguard cover daily between 10am to 6pm from 30 April – 25 September and between the Easter Holidays and end of October half term during the school holidays and on weekends and bank holidays. Always swim in the area between the red and yellow flags.

Why wasn’t I allowed to use the sauna?

Sauna Society reserves the right to refuse admission to any individual or group for any reasons that our staff deems to pose a health and safety risk. You are not permitted to enter the sauna if believed to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and we will refuse admission. Our staff’s judgement is final. Refunds will not be offered to anyone refused admission.
